For the Student

Second Semester Projects

Lesson

You are required to pick a project and fully participate, as it is a required summative grade. Each project MUST include aspects of chemistry. You must pick one project type for third quarter and a different project type for fourth quarter. You can address a specific chemical process or a world-related chemical topic. All work must be 100% original and adhere to standard plagiarism rules. All sources and typed information must be in MLA format. All topics must be from prior lesson material. There are several project types to pick from.

Project Types

  • Give a speech or a lecture
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • 10–15 minutes
    • One page outline must be turned in with the following requirements
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
      • If giving a Power Point lecture, a copy of the Power Point must be submitted
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

  • Create a theatrical skit
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • 10–15 minutes
    • A copy of the script must be submitted with the following requirements
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

  • Interpretive art
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • 10–15 minutes
    • One page outline must be turned in with the following requirements
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

  • Write poetry
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • Must write 5–7 different styled poems (single word acrostic not acceptable)
    • Each poem must have a title and its style noted
    • Typed, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

  • Write lyrics for a song (may include music)
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • 3–5 minute song
    • Lyrics and sheet music must be submitted
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
      • all music must be preapproved
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources
  • Create a game
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • Any style of game can be used
    • The game must be playable (all pieces presented with game)
    • You must create your own game board, if needed
    • You can NOT purchase or use a premade electronic version of a game
    • There must be a set of rules that are easy to follow
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

  • Create a comic book or children’s book
    • Topic approved by your teacher
    • 10–15 minutes
    • The comic book must have at least four full pages. The children’s book must have at least eight pages.
    • Must be turned in with the following requirements:
      • double space, 1 inch margins, Arial 10 or 12 point font
    • Works cited page (bibliography) with 3–5 viable sources

General Guidelines

  • All students will complete a project roster, which states what project type and topic they will complete.
  • Student must choose a project no later than _______.
  • There will be periodic progress checks and students will present work to date.
  • The project can be presented or turned in by _______ but students must give your teacher notice to arrange the presentation within the lesson schedule.
  • The fourth quarter due dates will be announced at the beginning of the fourth quarter.
