The NGSS Earth and Space Science standards have been added to many chemistry teachers’ plates. In this webinar, Sally Mitchell and Tim Keough, STEM Master Teachers in New York, talk about connecting earth science concepts to the chemistry curriculum.

Tim, an Earth Science Teacher, focuses on important earth science concepts, and Sally focuses on the connections to chemistry. They concentrate on igneous rock formations and the compositions of the molten magma. Additionally, they use food chemistry and making fudge as an analogue for basaltic lava. This activity will allow students to explore crystallization and rheology (flow properties such as viscosity) while having fun in the safe environment of a kitchen.
